David Cooper

David Cooper graduated from the Landes lab in 2015 and is currently a professor at Southwestern University.  Born and raised in Houston, Texas, David returned to Houston after living for four years in Terra Haute, Indiana where he attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. There he earned his Bachelor's Degree with a double major in Chemistry and Math. David's research at Rice focused on using single molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer to study the real time dynamics of biomolecules. SmFRET can be used to measure inter or intra molecular distances in these systems.  His projects included using smFRET to monitor the response from the AMPA receptor in the presence of full and partial agonists and observing the conformational changes of single stranded DNA. He also spent time working on improving the analysis of FRET trajectories and helping to make the experiment more efficient. When not in the lab David can be found out on the golf course with his dad or enjoying video games in his spare time.
